My career has included diverse roles as a newspaper journalist, medical writer, public relations manager, and software engineer. The theme of my life’s work is to listen, synthesize information and help others gain new insights. My life experiences ultimately led to my path as a psychotherapist. I believe in helping people discard old belief systems, find their truth, and fulfill their dreams.
My own life has had adversity and major life transitions, which led me to a stronger sense of self and personal achievement. As an outgrowth of my experiences, I am drawn to working with people who are open to learning, growing and making positive changes.
I started in the chemical dependency counseling field in 2003. I have experience with group and individual counseling and mental health issues. I particularly enjoy working with adults who:
-
Seek to develop their passion and interests
-
Want to grow along spiritual paths beyond traditional religion
-
Are ready to heal past hurts
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a master's degree from St. Edward's University. I also graduated from the Institute of Chemical Dependency Studies and am a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor.
From 2003 to 2014, I worked at three of Austin's leading Intensive Outpatient Programs: La Hacienda Solutions, The Right Step and Austin Recovery. I have been involved in addiction recovery since 1992. I've had a private practice since 2007. In 2014, I embarked on my private practice full time.
I also am an Usuri Reiki Master and offer Reiki energy work and classes in addition to or instead of counseling. Please visit: bodyandsoulreiki.com
