Services

I offer a 30-minute free introductory meeting. This gives us the opportunity to talk face-to-face to identify how my skills and experience can match your needs.

I have been a professional therapist, since 2003, providing individual and group counseling to adults with addiction to drugs/alcohol and those affected by a loved one's addiction.

I am a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, LCDC, in private practice in Austin, Texas. I have a Master of Arts in Counseling from St. Edward's University. I work at La Hacienda's Solutions Intensive Outpatient Program. I previously worked for The Right Step and Austin Recovery. I have been involved in addiction recovery since 1992.

I use a client-centered approach to meet a range of needs including:

- Drug and alcohol addiction

- Codependency

- Support and referral for dual diagnosis, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar, etc.

- Self-esteem and self-image problems

- Learning how family-of-origin issues impact current relationships

- Substance Use Evaluations for pending legal issues

- Professional training & marketing consultation

I offer convenient weekday morning and Saturday appointments. I accept checks and cash instead of insurance and offer quality services at affordable rates without interference and limitations dictated by insurance companies.

I also provide public speaking and education presentations on topics such as:

Understanding Addiction
Describes the disease concept of addiction including DSM IV criteria of
abuse versus dependence, disease model (primary, chronic, progressive &
fatal), 12-step model (allergy to alcohol). Also touches on contributing
factors such as genetics, environment, trauma/abuse history,
co-occurring mental illness, as well as process addictions (gambling,
sex, work, food).

Brain Chemistry
How mood altering substances affect the reward center of the
addict/alcoholic and reinforce continued use. Thus, craving for
substance use begins at the primitive mind and overrides the logical
mind. Co-occurring disorders (depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder) and
how substance use may be effort at self-medicating, may have contributed
to addiction and the need for treating both chemical dependency and
mental illness. Appropriate use of prescription medications
for treatment of mental illness.
